George F. Chase arrived in Boulder, Colorado, in July 1859. He was one of the first settlers of the town. He and his wife Augusta had five children; only their son Frederick survived them. Eugene Wilder was born in Canandaigua, N.Y. on 14 September 1840. He came to Blackhawk, Colorado in 1863, where he was foreman of the Blackhawk Journal.
